Athena Shot
The PRP Athena Shot© helps naturally treat female stress incontinence and pain during sex as well as help improve sensitivity, lubrication and orgasms.
The Athena Shot© – PRP Injection Therapy for Female Sexual Health
The Athena Shot is a simple, quick and relatively painless procedure using PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, which is derived directly from your own blod. The growth factors in the PRP promote healing and attract uni-potent stem cells to the injected region. This in turn regenerates tissue, collagen, elastin, vascularity and muscle tissue.
Athena Shot Q&A
How Does PRP Help with Female Incontinence, Lichen Sclerosus and Sexual Rejuvenation?
The growth factors in the Platelet Rich Plasma promote healing and attract uni-potent stem cells to the injected region. This in turn regenerates tissue, collagen, elastin and muscle tissue, increasing urinary function and returning sensitivity to the clitoris and G-spot. It also helps treat patients that suffer from Lichen Sclerosus, an uncomfortable and unsightly skin condition that is diagnosed in up to 200,000 females per year.
Though each woman’s physiology and outcome is different, here is a list of benefits you can expect to achieve from the Athena Shot©:
- Decreased urinary incontinence
- Decreased pain for those with dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
- A tighter introitus (vaginal opening)
- Increased natural lubrication
- Greater arousal from clitoral stimulation
- Stronger orgasm
- More frequent orgasm
- Increased sexual desire
- Increased ability to have a vaginal orgasm
- Younger, smoother skin of the vulva (lips of the vagina).
How Long Does It Take?
Your provider will perform the procedure in our office at Sunshine Health Care Center. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes, not including the time to extract and process your PRP as well as apply your numbing cream. You can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure and resume sexual activity after 24 hours. Some women report an improvement in urinary incontinence and/or clitoral sensitivity very soon after the first injections. This initial period may revert back to pre-procedure levels, and then gradually improve over the course of 4-6 weeks. You can expect continued improvement with full benefits at about the 3 month mark. The Athena Shot© may last for up to 18 months or more.
How Many Procedures Does It Take?
The Athena Shot© usually produces significant results with just one treatment depending on the severity of the condition and the results you are looking. Subsequent treatments normally add improvements on a bell curve (greater improvements after 2nd and 3rd treatments, tapering off after that). Treatments should be spaced at least 12 weeks apart to give the previous treatment time to achieve full effects.
Does the Athena Shot© Hurt?
The first step we take is to have the medical assistant apply a numbing cream to the precise areas that will be injected. Once the entire area is completely numb, we will apply a bit of ice to the clitoral area and then immediately inject a lidocaine block. This part may have a bit of a pinch and will possibly sting, but it is over with fairly quickly. After this, your provider will proceed with the intra-vaginal injections while the lidocaine block numbs the clitoral area. During this part, you will also feel a pinch and some pressure but nothing too bad.
Your provider will walk you through every step of the procedure and make sure you are as comfortable as possible. Different people have different pain thresholds, so please make sure to communicate with our staff. For particularly sensitive individuals, we can offer an anti-anxiety medication to be taken before your procedure, but we require that you have a designated driver.
